Archaeologists want your views

- By SORCHA CROWLEY

WITH your help, Sligo’s rich archaeological treasures can be identified for a new community archaeology plan.

Archaeologists want to hear from you, whether you’re an archaeologist, an individual citizen or part of a heritage group, community organisation, a business, a public body or heritage specialist.

They’ve designed a survey to gather our views on the ideas, issues and projects that should be addressed in the strategy.

People can make a submission by completing a pre-draft questionnaire online at www.surveymonkey. com/r/3P87WM3 between now and 4pm on Wednesday 18th April.

The strategy is being developed by Sligo Heritage Forum and funded by Sligo County Council.

Community Archaeology is archaeology initiated and driven by communities.

Many community archaeology projects have been undertaken in Ireland in recent years, successfully enhancing our understanding of the archaeological record and providing opportunities for skills development and active learning.

The development of a Sligo Community Archaeology Strategy is a strand of the ‘Sligo Community Archaeology Project’ - an initiative of Sligo Heritage Forum and an action of the County Sligo Heritage Plan 2016 – 2020.

The project is funded by Sligo County Council in partnership with The Heritage Council and is being delivered by Tamlyn McHugh of Fadó Archaeology on behalf of the Heritage Office, Sligo County Council.
