-

LOCAL man Barry MacMahon received a Papal Knighthood in the Cathedral last week.

In late 2017, Pope Francis named Barry C. MacMahon as a Knight of St. Gregory.

Last week, in Sligo Cathedral, Bishop Kevin Doran invested him with the insignia of the Order. The Equestrian Order of St Gregory the Great was established in the 18th Century to acknowledge men and women who, in their daily lives, have given particular service to the Church and to civil society.

Barry has, among other roles, served as Supreme Knight of the Knights of St Columbanus, as Chair of Sligo Social Services Council and as a member of the Pastoral Council of Sligo Cathedral Parish.
