Wins for Ursuline students
FOUR Transition Year students from the Ursuline College Sligo have qualified for the National finals of Cansat in Portlaoise later this year.
The students Ellen Bastible, Niamh Gowran, Kate Clarke and Heather McLoughlin participated in the regional Cansat competition at IT Sligo.
The Ursuline students impressed the judges with an excellent presentation and display of their satellite launch and recovery.
This project is concerned with the construction and data acquisition of a satellite sensor module.
It is run under the guidance of the European Space Agency and the Blackrock Observatory in Cork.
The National finals will see teams from every regional final compete for a place to represent Ireland in the European Cansat Competition held in the Azores in June 2018.
Students from the Ursuline College also took part in Feis Shligigh.
Eimear Kearins, Katie McGoldrick and Louise Mahon were among competition winners.
In the Junior section, prizewinners from the Ursuline College included Anna Fox, Ella O’Donovan, Clodagh Moore and Aoibhean Kearins.
They were prizewinners in the Comhrá Gaeilge Competitions held at Feis Shligigh recently.
