But Drumcliffe/Rosses Point managed to chip away at their opponent’s lead thanks to a goal from Paul Logan, who would go on to contribute 1-7 of Drumcliffe’s tally. The sides were level at 1-6 to 0-9 at half-time.

Coolaney/Mullinabreena edged in front on a couple of occasions in the second half, but some fine scores by Eoin Gaughan kept the home side in the hunt.

He scored two points in a row in the closing quarter to move the hosts one ahead in the closing moments.

But Padraig McGourty’s side responded with a late converted free to secure a draw. Coolaney/Mullinabreena host Curry at Nace O’Dowd Park in round two this Saturday while Drumcliffe/Rosses Point travel to Ransboro the same evening to play Coolera/Strandhill at 6:30pm.
