Another tag rugby season approaches at Hamilton Park

-

THE Sligo Rugby Club Tag League returns to Hamilton Park this year for another season of fun.

Extremely popular amongst all ages over the past few summers, it returns again this summer after a winter full of beasts and bread memes.

Tag rugby is a great mixed social sport, suitable for all shapes, sizes, ages and sporting abilities where both guys and girls can play together in a fun and competitive environment.

“You don’t need any rugby experience, as the game is all about running and passing, where agility, speed and hand to eye co-ordination are the key skills”, explains Ross O’Boyle of Sligo RFC.

“It is a soft contact sport, similar to basketball - so intentional impact, diving tackles and deliberate contact are forbidden and strictly penalised by our officials.

“Tag complements a wide range of other sports, from soccer to gaelic football and from hockey to tennis.

“Want to stay fit for the Summer or meet new friends? Then tag is the game for you!”

This year, the league’s organisers have decided to move tag night to Fridays in order to help it become more of a social event.

They have also arranged a number of events which will take place around the tag season at the Garavogue Bar in Sligo.

A wide range of events will take place during the tournament calender including a beginner barbecue for new players on May 18th, a kick-off party to coincide with the start of the tag league on May 25th, a Karaoke Night on June 8th and a Full Moon Party on July 6th.

“To see if we can squeeze a bit more craic out of this year’s Tag, we are making the big move to Friday Nights”, Ross continues.

“We will have live music and DJs playing all summer.

“We have a full social calendar planned out starting with our big ‘Kick-Off Kick Ass Party’. In between we will have events such as a Full Moon Party, Trad Night, the Garavogue Lip Sync Battle and to help a few of Sligo’s finest find love or alternatively if your taken celebrate your love, we have the eagerly anticipated Relationship Status Night.”

“To finish off the season on the last night of the year, after your final we are running an American style Prom Night to celebrate graduating from the season.”

The Tag League committee have also this year decided to bring down the price of entering a team. Last season it costed €480 to enter, but 2018’s prices have been slashed to just €380 per team.
