Man (53) killed while walking home on the main N15 road
THE 53-year-old man who was killed while walking on the Donegal road just outside Sligo on Wednesday night last lived in Tully, Rathcormac a couple of miles from the scene of the fatal accident.
Terry McGowan was struck by a car travelling out of Sligo on the main N15 at Lisalurg at approximately 11.05pm.
It is believed Mr McGowan was walking home when the collision took place.
Mr McGowan was brought to Sligo University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
An Inquest is likely to be held later into his death.
Mr McGowan was a popular character around Sligo and had many friends who enjoyed his company.
He was a regular patron of Harry’s Bar on High Street where his good humour and stories were much loved.
Mr McGowan would often get lifts in and out of town.
The road was closed overnight with diversions in place to allow for a forensic collision investigation by Gardaí to take place.

Mr McGowan, a single man, wasn’t working at present but had worked in farming previously and had a particular love of animals and was known for his skill in dealing with them.
Only last month, Mr McGowan’s brother, Tom passed away.
He is survived by his sister Kathleen and brothers, Jim, Matt and the late Pat.
His funeral took place on Saturday following Requiem Mass at 12 noon at St Colmcille’s Church, Rathcormac with burial afterwards in Rathcormac Cemetery.
