Man rushing to newborn daughter was uninsured

A man who was rushing to his newborn daughter in Sligo University Hospital was driving without insurance, Sligo District Court head.

Before the court was Innocent Maphosa with an address at Market Close, Market Yard, Sligo.

The 31-year-old was charged with no insurance at Connaughto­n Road, Sligo on October 1st 2017. Maphosa pleaded guilty and told Judge Deirdre Gearty that the reason he was driving was because he was rushing to bring milk to his baby daughter in the hospital.

The judge enquired where the car was now and he replied that he no longer had it. Inspector Donal Sweeney said that the car had since been seized. Maphosa told the judge he was a student and not currently working. She fined him €250 and disqualifi­ed him for two years. A charge of failing to produce an insurance certificat­e was taken into considerat­ion.
