MORE than two hundred participants took part in the Grange Good Friday 5k which was a fundraiser for the Friends Of Sligo University Hospital. Eamon McAndrew got his mojo back with a commanding gun to tape win to claim the biggest Easter Egg in a time of 16min 12 secs. The loss of form that he experienced in the Tubbercurry 10k now but a distant memory. Shane Hayes put in a fine performance in 2nd position in 16mins 32 secs with Martin Brennan taking the 3rd spot two seconds later. Aisling van Rensburg laid claim to the biggest Easter Egg for women with a convincing win in the women’s section with a time of 19 min 57 secs her North Sligo clubmate Andrea Horgan was 2nd in 20 mins 45 secs with 3rd spot going to the improving Trish Lee in 21mins 15 secs. Alan Wallace produced another personal best when running 18 mins 36 secs to win the over 40 section his North Sligo team mate Ray Gillen finished just two seconds later and Gerard Dillon took the 3rd spot. Marita McMorrow won the over 40 women section in 22min 1 sec with Ciara Kelly running 23 min 13 secs claiming 2nd and Katrina Finnegan finishing 3rd in 23 min 17 secs. Connaught crosscountry senior boys champion Michael Kerins was a very convincing winner of the junior boys section with a great time of 16mins 34 secs.

Darragh Kelly took the runnerup spot in 17 mins 5 secs and Conor Melvin finished 3rd one second later. Eve Delahunty won the junior girls race in 23min 14secs. Ciara Howley took the 2nd prize in 25min 43 sec and Ellie Haran took the 3rd spot. Jimmy Currid won the over 50 men and Martin McMorland the over 60 prize. Noreen Joyce won the over 50 women’s section and Joan Ward won the over 60 prize. John Croghan chopped 60 secs off his PB to record a time of 28min 2 sec. Great to see almost 30 runners from the St Molaise Gaels couch to 5k take part and it’s a great credit to their coach Cindy McCarthy and their motivator Joanne Kilfeather that they all finished well, some doing a 5k for the very first time.

Aidan McMoreland broke new ground in the Carney 10k last Monday when he took 1min 29 secs off his PB to record a great time of 34mins 9 secs, others to set PBs were Edel Oates 20 secs off in 51mins 38 secs and Alan Wallace 10 secs off in 39 min 10 secs.
