When Radio X published a new poll of the 100 greatest British songs of all time, they may not have anticipated the backlash from music fans bemoaning the lack of diversity. ‘Never realised there’s actually no such thing as women or black people,’ wrote one Twitter user. ‘It’s just the whitest, penisiest collection of music in existence,’ said another. Judging by the top ten, they might also have added that nothing existed before the 1990s.
