Man remanded on bail on revolver possession charge

A 37-year-old man has appeared at a sitting of Ballaghade­reen District Court last Friday on a firearms charge arising out of a search in Ballymote on Tuesday night.

Brian Duke of Cois Abhainn, Collooney was charged with possession­g the revolver at Corn Mill Park, Ballymote on April 10 th. Evidence of arrest, charge and caution was give by Garda Demitrius Doherty.

Gardaí objected to an bail applicatio­n made on behalf of the accused by Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor (defending).

Duke was remanded on bail with conditions by Judge Deirdre Gearty to Sligo District Court on April 26 th.

The gun was seized by Gardaí in the boot of a car following a search of a house in the estate around 10.30pm. Cannabis herb (subject to analysis) to the value of €1,000 was found during the search. No charges have been brought in respect of this offence.

The car in which the gun was found was seized and was removed to the Garda Ballistics Section in Garda Headquarte­rs for forensic examinatio­n. One man was arrested at the scene and taken to Ballymote Garda Station where he was detained under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939/98.
