Rural roads being ignored by leaders

-

THE government is ignoring people who live on Class 3 roads, the meeting heard.

Cllr Margaret Gormley said the government “hasn’t given a red cent for Class 3 Roads”.

She was speaking following a motion from Cllr Michael Clarke for the council to prepare a report on the Community Involvement Scheme.

He said that the 78 applications for the scheme illustrated the “state of rural roads and that people want to bring those roads up to standard”.

Cllr Paul Taylor predicted that if the scheme runs again next year there will be “three times that figure” applying for the scheme.

Cllr Joe Queenan claimed that Health and Safety guidelines were hampering progress, with people who have their own machinery and willing to carry out works, not allowed to do so.
