Frustrations vented over funding for Woodlands
Frustrations were vented at the April Council meeting over the lack of funding forthcoming to build a boundary wall in the Woodlands Estate in Ballytivnan.
Cllr Thomas Healy, speaking on behalf of residents in the estate, some of whom watched from the public gallery, said he was asking that the council write to the Minister for Local Government Eoghan Murphy to fund the wall, to alleviate serious flooding issues in the estate.
Cllr Healy recalled that a commitment was made by Cllr Marie Casserly at last month’s meeting that funding would be allocated within two weeks.
It was now four weeks, Cllr Healy said, and still no funding was forthcoming, and he said residents were becoming increas- ingly frustrated at the lack of action.
Cllr Casserly had said at the March meeting that it was her understanding funding would become available from the Department within weeks. She did not speak on the motion last Monday. Chief executive Ciarán Hayes agreed that the council should make further enquiries “with urgency”.
