Ladies’ league kicks-off

There was great excitement in Sligo GAA circles at the weekend as the Sligo Ladies’ Connacht Gold League got underway.

In Division One, there were wins for last year’s finalists Geevagh over Tourlestra­ne. While defending champions St Nathy’s had a winning start over St Mary’s in Kent Park.

In in Division Two, Drumcliff/ Rosses Point came out on top over neighbour’s Calry/St Joseph’s and last year’s Division Three champions Curry lost out by a point to Eastern Harps.

In Division Three, Owenmore Gaels had a convincing win at home to St Molaise Gaels.

While Shamrock Gaels overcame Cloonacool/Tubbercurr­y Gaels and St Farnan’s and Coolera/Strandhill drew in Templeboy.

Sligo minors lost out to a very strong Roscommon in the Connaught B Championsh­ip final played at the centre of excellence in Ballyhauni­s on Wednesday evening last.

They now will face Leitrim in the C final in two weeks time.

Sligo’s under 14 side have qualified for the Connacht Championsh­ip C Final after they too lost out to Roscommon In Castlerea on Saturday last.

While Sligo under 16s will also face Leitrim in their Connacht Championsh­ip Final.

In other ladies news, the first draw in the 300 Club was postponed to the next county board meeting.

Clubs have been reminded that tickets are now overdue and to please return as soon as possible.
