Funding needed to repair Ballintogher playground

-

Over recent months an estimated €10,000 worth of vandalism has taken place in Ballintogher village community playground. The playground which cost over €120,000 is less than 6 years old.

Finbar Diamond, Chairperson of the Committee, said “we are very proud of our playground and what we have achieved, it took a big community effort, a lot of time and dedication.

“Today, many units in the playground are unsafe and need to be repaired. The committee are currently working on a CLAR application to access much needed funding”.

Thomas Walsh, Local Community Activ- ist has hit out at what he has described as “a total disrespect of the facility by a small number of young people.”

He continued: “This cannot be permitted and steps to stop antisocial behaviour such as young people socialising in the area after playground closing times have now been taken.

“I have met with the committee now on a number of occasion and we have put a strategy in place for the future of the facility”.

It is hoped the playground committee can access funding under the CLAR Programme 2018 to ensure the facility will remain open.
