Drove out in front of car on N17

-

A driver who drove across the main N17 in Ballincarrow causing a collision with an oncoming car was fined €250 by Judge Kevin Kilrane for careless driving at Sligo District Court.

Pat Killoran (78) of Flower Hill, Bunninadden admitted causing the accident at Ropefield, Ballinacarrow on November 28th 2015.

He was towing a trailer at the time and was exiting a side road at 8.40am, Inspector Paul Kilcoyne told the court.

Killoran told the court it was his intention to drive straight across the road.

The oncoming car, travelling towards Sligo, collided with the trailer.

Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor (defending), pleaded that it was a bad morning with damp and miserable conditions.

Killoran told Judge Kevin Kilrane that he never saw the yield sign and that he didn’t know the road too well.

It was the first accident he ever had.

He added that men had been killed at the crossing before in accidents.
