SIX ACRE SITE PICKED FOR STATION

MINISTER ‘BOXER’ MORAN REVEALS CONTRACT TO BE SIGNED THIS WEEK FOR NEW GARDA STATION AT CALTRAGH

A six acre site close to the Pensions Office and Summerhill College has been earmarked for Sligo’s new Garda Station.

Minister of State, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran revealed the OPW and the Chief State Solicitors Office were finalising the purchase and he expected this process would be “concluded in the next number of days.” Deputy Tony McLoughlin said: “I am delighted that the project to build the new regional headquarte­rs is moving forward at

pace. Planning for this €20 Million developmen­t will commence imminently.” GRA representa­tive Ray Wims said he hoped a team can be put in place with rank and file Gardaí , Chief Supt Aidan Glackin and Government officials to advance planning straight away. He expected the Public Private Partnershi­p Scheme to be a much quicker process and hopes the new HQ will be home to specialise­d units such as the regional Armed Response Unit currently based in Ballyshann­on.
