Cottage plan gets go ahead

-

PLANNERS for Sligo County Council have green lit an extension to a derelict cottage on The Old Village Road in Rosses Point.

Brenda Boyle plans to demolish two existing extensions and build a new one onto the existing cottage which lies right on the corner of the Old Village Road and the road into Radhach na Rí and Ceol na Mara housing estates.

Her application includes renovating the derelict cottage and adding a glass porch to the front, a covered car port and balcony.

The plans prompted four objections from neighbours Elizabeth Wagstaff (tenant of the adjacent cottage), Patrick Healy (owner of the adjacent cottage), Aidan and Kathleen Tierney and residents of Radhach na Rí and Ceol na Mara.

Residents were concerned the front wall would impinge on sight lines for traffic.

They also objected on privacy grounds and said the proposed modern style extension was not in keeping with the traditional cottage style seen in the neighbourhood.

Residents also said the height and scale of the development would have an overpowering effect on their homes.

County Planners granted permission to Ms Boyle on the 18th of April.

She must omit proposed windows on the western side and the proposed eastern boundary wall “shall not reduce the existing width of the adjacent carriageway heading north (towards the housing estates)” in the interests of traffic safety.
