Just one week left to register to vote in Referendum on 8th
Sligo voters should check the register now to ensure their voice is heard in the upcoming referendum on May 25 th.
With just a week to go until the May 8th register to vote deadline, the Referendum Commission is urging people in Sligo to check now to ensure they can vote in the referendum on the regulation of termination of pregnancy.
Over the past few weeks the Commission has been running an advertising and social media campaign encouraging people to check the electoral register.
Chairperson of the Referendum Commission, Isobel Kennedy said: “If you are not sure whether you are registered to vote in the forthcoming referendum, or whether or not you are regis- tered at the correct address, you can find out very simply by checking the electoral register at www.checktheregister.ie.
“You can also check the register in local authority offices, post offices, Garda stations and public libraries.
“If you are not registered, you can make sure you are added to a supplement to the register by downloading a form, or ask your local authority for one. Then you complete it, bring it to your local Garda station to have your identity certified, and ensure it gets to your local authority before May 8th,” she said.
“That closing date falls just after a Bank Holiday weekend so our strong advice would be to do this well before then and indeed, to do it today.”
