Speeding driver was on his way to court

A driver observed driving at an excessive speed and overtook two cars on a continuous white line on a bend was driving his brother to Sligo for a court appearance.

Father of three, Fabien Muntean (25) of Warren Grove, Boyle admitted a charge of careless driving at Whitehill near Castlebald­win on April 5 th last at 9.40am.

Inspector Donal Sweeney said the driver failed to stop initially after a patrol car’s blue lights were activated but stopped eventually in Castlebald­win.

His speed was not officially record but the Garda estimated it to be 190kph approximat­ely.

Muntean has three previous conviction­s for no insurance.

Mr Eddie Henry, solicitor (defending) said he was covered on this occasion.

He was driving his brother to court in Sligo having been approached in a panic and drove excessivel­y.

Judge Kevin Kilrane fined Muntean €300.
