The Sligo Champion

IT offering first online course in construction

-

The first online Higher Certificate in Construction Economics in the country is being launched by IT Sligo today.

The Level 6 in Construction Economics is very much work-friendly as it is offered through online distance learning over a period of two years on a part-time basis.

Course delivery is flexible and includes live evening-time web-cast classes, which are also recorded so that students who are unable to take part in the live sessions can access them at any time. There is no attendance requirement and all content is delivered online.

The course was developed in response to the increasing demand for estimators/cost managers both nationally and internationally. It has been designed in close liaison with employers, practitioners and professional bodies to ensure that it meets current workplace needs.

The course is tailored for those currently working in all areas of the construction industry — from a trades background to management — who wish to develop their career but may have no prior qualifications. Graduates of the course can also progress to online degrees in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.

The new certificate adds to IT Sligo’s suite of existing online construction professional programmes in the areas of Construction Economics, Estimating, Cost Management and Quantity Surveying.

Head of Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Trevor McSharry, said learners and employers find their online part-time delivery “very flexible and caters for work and family life.” The next intake for all courses will be in September 2018 and applications are now being accepted.
