Rave reviews for new book by Sligo author
A new book written by a Ballisodare native is getting rave reviews in the United States.
L.M Brown, a native of Ballisodare, has just released her first book, ‘Debris’ in the States.
The book is set in 1980s Ireland and follows the journey of two teenagers who have experienced tragedy and find solace in one another.
Fourteen-year-old Andre feels to blame for his mother’s death and flees to his aunt’s house where he meets troubled teen Erin McEvoy.
Her mother disappeared a year ago and she believes her abusive father is guilty of hurting her. But when Andre starts to investigate, nothing is as it seems.
Erin’s story doesn’t match up, and Andre realises he is not the only one with a secret.
In this coming of age novel, love and loyalty are tested and readers find that there are monsters and heroes hiding in the unlikeliest of places.
The photographs used on the front and back cover were taken by local photographer Paul McConigly.
The back cover uses a photograph of Hazelwood.
Susan Breen, author of the Maggie Dove mystery series said: “A haunting story about friendship, loss and family secrets. No easy answers here, but Brown makes you care about her people. A powerful book.”
Maria Flook, Author of Invisible Eden and Mothers and Lovers said: “LM Brown gives a fresh new voice to family struggle and family loss with an edgy and mysterious story about broken connections and important bonds that can’t be torn apart. Her setting is both eerie and inviting and her characters come to life in their search for answers about a past that hovers with dangerous discoveries about the present.”
‘Debris’ is available to buy from Amazon.
Now based in Boston, L.M Brown will also be releasing a short story collection ‘ The Village’ shortly.
That is based in her hometown of Ballisodare.
