The BIG AUCTION takes place on Thursday May 3rd, – The Glasshouse Hotel, 8pm (with viewing from 7.30pm)

Music by Felip Carbonnell from 7.30pm & Special guest Amy O’Hara to perform some of her new material.

Each year Cairde Sligo Arts Festival holds a fundraisin­g auction, which raises essential funds towards making the festival happen.

The annual big auction fundraiser for Cairde Sligo Arts Festival takes place on Thurs May 3rd with viewing from 7.30pm in the Glasshouse Hotel, Sligo.

This always proves to be a great night out with amazing donations, unbelievab­le bargains and a lot of fun along the way with our auctioneer Niall Canning.

Some of the items for auction this year include a range of incredible artworks from artists Michael Wann, Cormac O’Leary, Lorna Watkins, Barra Cassidy, Marilin North, Heidi Wickham and more; jewellery and accessory donations from The Cat and the Moon and Cait & I; vouchers for Cafés & restaurant­s, gym membership­s; a wonderful range of holistic treatments; a myriad of indoor and outdoor activities; festival and concert tickets, and much more!

Cairde Sligo Arts Festival will take place this year from July 7 th to 14 th and once again Sligo will come to life with an incredible range of music, theatre, spoken word, dance, poetry trails, children’s and family events, visual art and more.

Some of this year’s festival highlights include the annual massive outdoor celebratio­n Park Fest on Sunday July 8th, and the addition of the Circus Big Top coming to Stephen St Car Park in Sligo town from July 12 th to 14 th.

The Big top will be filled with circus, street theatre and cabaret performanc­es; clowning and circus workshops for children with performanc­es by Tumble Circus, Lords of Strut and more.

The annual Cairde Visual open submission show presented by the Model will run from Wednesday July 11 th to August 19 th and will present work from local, national and internatio­nal visual artists.

Music highlights will include Flook, Jerry Creedon Trio, Katie Laffan, Lemoncello, New Jackson Music & Margie Lewis, Disco é Cultura, Niwel Tsumbu & Eamon Cagney and more. Highlights for kids include the multi-award winning theatre company This Egg with Me & My Bee – an engaging and comic show with a serious message about saving the bees.

BEALTAINE

The Hawk’s Well Theatre is running three courses specially designed for over 50s as part of its Bealtaine celebratio­ns. A five-week course entitled ‘Dust off your Instrument:’ with Niamh Crowley will run from 1 to 2pm from Monday 30 th of April to Monday 28th of May at the theatre.

This special Bealtaine programme is designed to reawaken musical talents and join fellow musicians to form a mini orchestra for the month of May and is open to players of any level, instrument or style.

An Acting course with actor Noelle Brown will run for five weeks from Tuesday 1st of May from 3 to 5pm.

This lifelong learning course is specially designed for those over fifty who wish to share and develop new or existing skills in drama and performanc­e and it takes place is a low pressure environmen­t with plenty of laughter.

A Songbirds singing course with Cathy Jordan will run from Monday 14 th of May to Monday 18th of June with no class on Monday 4 th of June.

This course is specially for those over 50 who would like to rekindle their joy of singing, learn new songs ad increase their repertoire in a joyful social environmen­t.

Each five week course costs €30 + €1 renovation fee and can be booked online or though the Hawk’s Well Box office on 071 9161519.

Other courses starting soon at the theatre which are open to all adults include a Beginners bodhrán course with John Joe Kelly running for five weeks from Monday 30 th of April to Monday 28th of May from 7.15 to 8.15pm.

This will be a wonderful opportunit­y to learn from a master of the bodhrán. The five week course costs €60.

A six week evening acting class with Jean Marie Perinetti starts up on Monday 30 th of April and will run to Monday 18th of June (no class Monday 7 May or 4 June) from 7 to 8.30pm and costs €75 + €1 renovation fee.
