Denied he had been driving ‘unique’ car

A 40-year-old father of three denied he was driving a car on the Bundoran Road despite a Garda stating he was sure it was him. Summoned for not having insurance at the Bundoran Road on August 5 th last was David McLoughlin of St John’s Terrace. Garda Enda Devenney saw the defendant driving a Honda Accord at 11.55am on the way out of Sligo. He turned but lost sight of the car before locating it in Cartron Estate. Its tax, insurance and NCT discs were out of date. While being seized, McLoughlin emerged from a house and took items from it including a child seat and phone. McLoughlin said he owned the car but the clutch had gone and it wasn’t roadworthy. He had it for between four and six months and there were only two Accords in Sligo.It was parked in the estate for three weeks. Convicting the defendant, who has 80 previous conviction­s, Judge Kilrane put the case back to July 5 th to allow the defendant be assessed for 240 hours of community service.
