Having control of politicians
Dear Editor,
Vicky Phelan’s tragic experience is yet another example of how this State, its politicians and its many agencies have to be regularly held to account for their abject failures to act in the best interests of the ‘common good’. Failures to adequately legislate and hold state agencies to account for homelessness, Tusla failures in child protection, bank bailouts, tracker mortgage scandals, repeated mismanagement in dealing with the multitude of crises in the Gardai Siochana, A&E hospital chaos, lack of funding for schools, to mention a few. The 8th amendment imposes a constitutional proviso that politicians must pay due regard to the equal right to life of both the pre-born child and his/her mother in any legislation. The question we have to address on May 25 th is whether we should we vote NO and retain some control on our fickle politicians or should we succumb to the liberal agenda’s mischievous, and in some case dishonest propaganda. So, if you are confused by all the conflicting arguments bear in mind that if the 8th is repealed then our politicians will be handed a blank cheque to legislate in any which way they see fit to terminate the lives of pre-born children. Regards,
Miheál Mac Giolla Ri,
