Teenagers join Kieran Quinn for theme nights
After last year’s roaring success, a brand new talented gang of teenage musicians will grace the stage of the Hawk’s Well Theatre this May. Kieran Quinn’s second teenage theme showcase will feature the best of Sligo’s up-and-coming talent performing iconic songs and tunes from our nation’s best composers and artists, as our newest theme is ‘Best of Irish’. Featuring an entirely teenage orchestra and brass section, this show will be one for the books!
Quinn and his colleagues, with the generous help and support of EJ Menswear, have run an extensive training programme, made up of 3 day-long workshops for the perfomers, with the twin aims of producing an ambitious, polished and entertaining show, while having lots of fun along the way. Not to be missed!
Quinn, who created these theme nights says: “The Teenage Theme Nights are a real favourite of mine - I always look forward to them. I get a great kick from seeing these wonderful teenagers making friends, expressing themselves, and learning great life skills - all through music. They can all be proud of their role in helping the nights grow from humble beginnings in March 2014 to the amazing showcase we have planned this coming May. We have been rehearsing hard and I can’t wait for people to see what we have in store.”
The theme nights involve students from Transition Year to 6 th year, who can perform at 9 shows over the three year period, 3 each year.
One sixth year student, Ollie White, said: “I really enjoy the theme nights because it gives me the opportunity to sing with a professional band on a regular basis. I also enjoy performing in front of large audiences and having the craic with everyone involved. The theme nights give everyone involved a chance to showcase their talents in front of their family, friends and general public of Sligo. It is a great way to enhance a teenager’s self confidence and their ability to perform in groups and on their own in a fun and supportive environment.”
The Theme Night will be performed in the Hawkswell theatre, in-keeping with the tradition of the annual Teenage Theme Showcase, with the director of the venue adding:
“We are really looking forward to welcoming the second of Kieran Quinn’s Teenage Theme Showcase events back to the Hawk’s Well this May. It is always a privilege to provide a platform for local talent and after last year’s impressive display of incredible musicality we are excited to see what this year’s showcase has in store.”
