New BreastCheck site to be put in place by the end of May
The decision to locate the BreastCheck mobile screening unit near the Homecare Pharmacy at Cornageeha, Pearse Road, has been welcomed by Cllr Declan Bree.
Dr Aideen Larke, Consultant Radiologist and Clinical Director of BreastCheck advised Cllr Bree of the National Screening Service decision to locate the unit in the Sligo urban area.
“When Dr Larke phoned me she told me that her team had examined a number of potential sites in the Sligo urban area and she said that a number of them were considered suitable. After due consideration they finally decided to go with the site at Cornageeha.
“The criteria for such a site include a location accessible by public transport with car parking facilities and toilet and refreshment facilities nearly. In the past the BreastCheck unit has been sited in a number of locations in Sligo including the Racecourse and the Carraroe retail park. I expect that the new site at Cornageeha on Pearse Road will be operational by the end of the month. I wish to thank Dr Larke and her team for their speedy response to my representations and to the many requests to have the screening unit located in Sligo town.”
