DDSL win Super Cup.
THE Dublin District Soccer League (DDSL) retained the Sligo Super Cup this weekend with a penalty win over Derby County in the final.
The Showgrounds played host to a feast of football, with eight academies from Ireland and the United Kingdom facing off for the second year of the tournament,
Hosts Sligo Leitrim were grouped with Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Glenavon.
The second group was comprised of the DDSL, Ipswich Town, Chesterfield and the Mayo Schoolboys league.
There was some incredible talent on show during what was superb weekend.
Parents of many of the young footballers taking part in the competition travelled to Sligo for the event.
The players taking part were welcomed as guests at The Showgrounds on the Saturday evening for Sligo Rovers v Bohs.
They brought a great atmosphere to the game.
Sligo Leitrim beat Ipswich Town 2-1 in the 7/8 place play-off game.
In the 5th/6th play-off, Chesterfield beat Glenavon.
In the 3rd/4th place play-off Sheffield Wednesday beat the Mayo Schoolboys 1-0.
And in a superb final that went to penalties, the DDSL retained their title against Derby County.
The player of the tournament trophy was awarded to Derby County’s Hugo Harvey.
This year’s event is just over, but plans will already be in place for next year’s event.
