Premier League hots up

-

THE weekend now saw the Andrew Mullen Premier League enter in to its deciding stages with two massive games on the cards. League leaders MCR travelled to fourth placed neighbours Glenview Stars who have a game in hand and prior to the game were well in contention for second spot. The last time this two teams met was on the 10th Sept, a game which MCR won with the only goal of the game scored by Fatih Hamiani.

This had all the hallmarks of a close encounter.

But this time MCR were in no mood to take any prisoners. Stars got an early warning when their keeper Sergio Gomez saved a brilliant penalty from Stephen Hallahan but Stars’ delight was short lived when Junior International Keith Nibbs fired MCR into the lead on 25 minutes and ten minutes later Ciaran Harvey insured the league leaders were in the driving seat at the half way mark. Keith Nibbs added his second with twenty-five minutes remaining and it was really all over at this stage.

An own goal on the stroke of full-time made little difference to the result. MCR on this form can go all the way,

Stars can still cause major damage and are still good enough for at least a top three position.

Real Tubber, who are comfortable in mid table, welcomed second place high flying Merville Utd to Tubbercurry.

These two-last met in the league on the opening game of the season on the 3rd September a game Merville won by seven goals to nil so confidence would be very high with Merville for this encounter and so it proved to be.

Merville consolidated second spot and will now be mounting a major challenge for honours with this four goals to nil victory.

Once again Ryan Mc Manus with two fine goals aided and abetted with a goal each from Joe Spratt and Donagh Crowne sealed the points for a rampant Merville Utd.
