Open Cup takes centre stage as season draws to a close

-

ANOTHER season in the Sligo Rovers Astro league is coming to a close, with two cup finals within the next six days finishing off what has been a hugely successful season in the popular night league.

The Open Cup final takes centre stage tomorrow night, with defending champions GSS taking on local rivals the Bourbon Bar at 8pm.

There has been very little difference in the sides all season, with both teams qualifying for Premier Division football last Christmas while also enjoying a solid cup run. To mark the occasion, the league has appointed three match officials to officiate in what should prove to be a memorable game.

Members of the public are welcome to attend with teas and coffees also available on the night.

The final game of the 2017/18 astro league season will take place on Monday night, with Cornview Celtic taking on Foleys Bar in the Emmett O Connor Memorial Cup final, again with an 8pm kick-off. The cup ran in memory of the late Emmett O Connor, has proven to be a popular method to finish the season with family members attending to present the winning trophy.

Once again, a cracking match lies ahead with the top two in the Premier Division going head to head for the final accolade of the astro league season.

Once again, three officials have been appointed for the game and members of the public are welcome to attend.

The previous two meetings between the sides have resulted in draws, which asks the question will a penalty shoot-out be required?

The Sligo Champion will have exclusive coverage of both cup finals, starting with the Open Cup final in next week’s edition.
