BOYLE CAMERA CLUB

On Friday, May 11, Boyle Camera Club members will photograph people in the town of Boyle for a special project ‘Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018’. Like every society in Ireland, Boyle is changing. Our community is made up of people from a range of background­s, cultures and places. One thing they do have in common is a decision to live or work in Boyle, and they are all actively shaping how our community works and the way our town will develop beyond 2018.

DARKNESS INTO LIGHT

Darkness into Light is an annual 5k Walk/Run in aid of Pieta House. On Saturday, May 12, a community will come together at St Joseph’s Hall and walk in support of positive mental health. This is a truly unique experience made by YOU Family, friends and friends you haven’t met yet gathering in support of those who may be struggling or those we have lost. Together we stand together as a community and shine a beacon of light and hope. This will be Boyle’s second year to host the world wide event.

ANGLING COMPETITIO­N

Cavetown and Clogher Angling club will hold a Pike Angling competitio­n on Cavetwon Lake. This boat only event will take place on Sunday, May 27, Entry from 9.30 a.m. with fishing from 11 to four. Prize giving at Cavetown Amenity Area on the lake shore. Strict catch and release policy and boats must have a holding tank and electric outboards only. MANUAL HANDLING COURSE

A five-day Manual Handling Instructor­s Course QQI Level 6 will take place at Boyle Enterprise Centre this May. The course will provide participan­t with the knowledge and skill to provide manual handling training and to manage workplace risks. Referendum Canvassing and discussion­s are taking place locally on the upcoming referendum to remove or not remove the Eight Amendment from the Constituti­on. Word locally is that the vote will be tight.

A sad complaint locally is that posters have been removed by opponents of the other opinion. Respect for all opinions should be tolerated by all sides.

MARTIN SKEFFINGTO­N R.I.P.

The recent death occurred after a long illness borne with great courage of Martin Skeffingto­n late of Springvale and originally from Connolly Park, Tubbercurr­y.

Aged 73 Martin was a well known and respected man who was quiet spoken and who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.

In his early working life he moved to England from Tubbercurr­y where he spent nearly 20 years working in the constructi­on business before returning home with his wife Jean to rear their expanding family.

Locally he worked with various farmers doing the seasonal work as required, and he always enjoyed this type of farm work where he was involved with nature and wildlife. As a hobby he always kept a racing greyhound or two and was a regular attendee at Longford and Galway greyhound racing tracks. He also enjoyed shooting and hunting and knew all the woods and bogs of South Sligo.

His remains reposed at the Morahan funeral home prior to removal to the Church of John Evangelist. Burial took place in Rhue Cemetery.

Martin is survived by his wife Jean, daughters Julie and Katie, sons Martin, Paul, Michael, Brian, Peter and Tom, sons and daughters-in-law, many grandchild­ren, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces and friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. May he rest in Peace.

TOMMY WYNNE R.I.P.

Sympathy is extended to John Wynne, Tubbercurr­y and Christy Wynne, Corsallagh and to their sister Margaret Granlahan on the recent death of their brother Tommy, who died recently in Ennistymon, Co. Clare. May he rest in Peace.

REAL TUBBER FC

Real Tubber FC are holding an EGM in St Brigid’s Hall Tubbercurr­y on Monday, May 14, at 9 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to elect a committee of officers. The club invites all members, parents and coaches to attend and to have their say on how the club will be run.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Active retirement activities have resumed for the Spring/ summer session.

The weekly Tuesday group meetings in the Health Centre will now be held in the evenings at 8 p.m. with Card games, Flower Arranging, Reflexolog­y, Bealtaine celebratio­n, outings etc on the agenda.

Monthly outings are being arranged and we are looking forward to our week’s trip to North Wales in June.

Weekly Bowling and Exercises continue as well as our open ‘Irish hour’ on Thursdays in Teach Laighne at 3 p.m. Ta alan daoine sa ceanntar ata gra aca do’n Gaeilge – bain usaid as bhur cupla focail and join us every Thursday for a very enjoyable hour.
