WATER BOIL NOTICE
Representatives from Irish Water held a meeting last week with all the public representatives from Sligo County Council and also with a number of Community Representatives. They gave an in-depth description of the ongoing problems associated with the water supply from Lough Talt.
In a nutshell the boil water notice is set to continue into the immediate future with no sign yet of it being lifted. Many representatives were totally unaware of how basic the treatment plant at Lough Talt actually is, and indeed it is probably incorrect to use the name ‘treatment plant’ at all.
The water coming from the lake goes through a basic system where the water is chlorinated, but it is not put through any filtering system as is the norm in other more modern facilities.
