Cos Cos Festival weekend
The 2018 Cos Cos Sean Nós Festival will reach it s climax this weekend with the bulk of the li ve concerts and performances taking place over Friday, Saturday and Sunday (May 11th, 12th & 13th).
The week-long festival, based in Drumcliffe and Rathcormac, is an annual celebration of the oldest traditional art forms in Irish dance, music and voice.
One of the big festival attractions this year is the ‘In Tune For Life’ Traditional Music Orchestra.The 70-strong group of young musicians and dancers from County Tipperar y will perform li ve in Rathcormac Hall this Saturday at 8pm.
There will be a new international dimension too with Portuguese Stick Dancers ‘Pauliteiros’ giving a series of impromptu ‘Flash Mob’ t ype performances of one of Portugal’s most traditional dance forms, at various l ocations throughout the festival weekend. The festival line-up includes a ver y special concert in Drumcliffe Church on Saturday, May 12th, at 8:30pm. Lorcán Mac Mathúna, award winning Sean Nós singer, is joined by renowned fiddler Daire Bracken and founding member of Danú, as they join forces with Preab Meader for a unique musical experience, described as a fusion of traditional music, Sean Nós dance and poetr y. Tickets for this special concert are available to purchase online at coscos.ie. The Festival Marquee in Rathcormac will also be the setting for a number of free performances on Saturday and Sunday.
The final Sunday of the Festival (May 13th). The Wild Atlantic Sean Nós dancing competitions in Collins’ Lounge from 1:30pm, followed by a rousing Celebration Céilí in Rathcormac Hall from 4pm with the world famous Kilfenora Céilí Band.
