Man (21) coming from ‘house of interest’

A young man was seen coming from a house of interest to the drugs unit, Inspector Donal Sweeney told Sligo District Court.

Luke Melly of 19 Cranmore Drive was stopped at Connolly Street on March 30 th 2017 having come from a house close by Gardaí. He attempted to swallow something but it was retrieved from his mouth and he admitted that it was cannabis.

Melly was charged with possession of the drug and with obstructio­n under the Drugs Act.

There were also a number of other drug possession charges against the defendant adjourned from a previous court. These were for offences at Cranmore Road, Cranmore Place in March 2017 and Millbrook Apartments and Stephen Street Car Park in November 2016 where the defendant also faced a knife possession charge.

All matters were adjourned by Judge Kevin Kilrane to Sligo District Court on November 8th for continued monitoring and to allow for the preparatio­n of a new probation report.
