DRUNK DRIVER WAS 11 TIMES OVER THE DRINK DRIVING LIMIT

-

A driver has been put off the road for two years for drink driving on Pearse Road.

Ryan Monaghan (26) of Breaghwy, Ballinfull, Grange, pleaded guilty to drink driving on Pearse Road on 1st November 2017.

Inspector Donal Sweeney told the court that Monaghan’s alcohol/breath reading was 53mgs/100mls . The legal limit is 22 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of breath.

Defence solicitor Ms Laura Spellman said that her client currently had a job as a sales rep and asked Judge Kilrane to consider postponing his driving disqualification to next November.

Taking the witness stand, Monaghan ad- mitted he had a problem with alcohol but said he had “turned things around” now.

“I realised something had to be done,” he told the judge.

He gave the judge his word he wouldn’t drink and drive again. He was fined ¤250 and disqualified from driving for two years from 1st November next.
