Changes to hourly parking rates at Abbey Street and The Mall car parks

-

It’s been proposed to increase the hourly rate for parking in Abbey Street car park and The Mall car park from 80c to 90c.

The County Council is also proposing to reduce the minimum parking fee of 40c for 20 minutes to 30c in those car parks.

There is no proposed change to the hourly car park rate of ¤1.20 in Wine Street, Stephen Street, Quay Street and Adelaide Street.

The proposals to the Bye-laws were presented to Sligo Municipal District’s May meeting on Monday. The worst location for traffic fines is Wine Street car park, with 183 fines issued by traffic wardens between January and March of this year.

Stephen Street had the second highest number of fines issued at 119, while 113 fines were issued on Gratton Street and 111 in the Market Yard. It’s also been proposed to bring in Pay & Display parking charges to St Anne’s Terrace, Holborn Hill and Circular Road to help alleviate parking congestion for residents and visitors in those areas. New parking meters will allow motorists pay by coin, card, text or online.
