Miscarriage is my reason for campaigning for a No vote

-

ON Friday next, May 25 th we become the first country in the world to get to vote in a referendum that would legalise abortion on demand.

My name is Amanda Gallagher and I am a mother of seven children, one of whom passed away when I was 14 weeks pregnant and she is the reason why I campaign to save the 8th Amendment. I have been canvassing for a NO vote in the upcoming referendum for the past couple of months with ‘Sligo For Life’.

As we are all aware, the Supreme Court ruled a few months ago that the 8th Amendment was the only protection our unborn children have in our constitution – to vote to remove their right to life would be a most grave injustice and the idea that we would vote to leave a whole section of society without any rights at all is unthinkable.

I have seen first-hand the absolute humanity of the unborn child when I suffered a miscarriage.

I had the most amazing experience of holding my baby after the miscarriage and all my pain seemed to disappear because I was in awe of her.

She was only the size of my hand but she was so perfectly formed, she even had her tiny hand placed under her chin and had a beautiful smile on her face – her image is etched on my heart and mind and there it will remain forever.

I am fighting the abortion proposal put forward by Minister Harris because at 12 weeks gestation these babies are fully formed, they feel emotion, they feel joy – they equally would feel pain.

One of the greatest mistruths of the Together for Yes campaign is that abortion is healthcare.

Abortion is absolutely not healthcare.

Abortion kills an innocent child and damages a mother. That is all it does.

There can be psychological damage to the mother for years. A woman can be made infertile from abortion.

Whilst out canvassing we have spoken to many women who have suffered the awful after effects of abortion - the group ‘Rachel’s Vineyard’ are an excellent resource for any woman who is suffering.

Our women deserve so much better than abortion and our Government have not explored or offered any solutions to women who find themselves with a crisis pregnancy – they constantly cite the hard cases to us, which make up for only 2% of all abortions – the other 98% of abortions are done so for convenience.

We see the ‘Yes’ posters dotted around the country with the words ‘compassion & care’ – true compassion and care would never offer abortion as a ‘choice’.

The act of abortion itself is horrific and the Government’s proposal of abortion on demand, one which would be more extreme than the U.K. truly is chilling.

The 8th Amendment protects both women and children – this is a fact – and we simply cannot vote away the right to life of every unborn child in the country on May 25 th.

We must Vote No. -Article written by Sligo for Life’s, Amanda Gallagher
