The Sligo Champion

Cancer and the Eighth

-

Dear Editor,

I’m a mother of a three year old son and I am a breast cancer patient. I would like to share how my cancer treatment, past and ongoing for the next 10+ years, could be stopped by the 8th amendment leaving me with a much higher chance of my cancer coming back.

If my cancer comes back, it will kill me within 3 years. There is no cure. I can only try to stop it from coming back by staying on my drugs for as long as needed, drugs that I cannot take when pregnant.

I desperately would love another child but more than that, I don’t want to die and leave my 3 year old son without a mother. This is my reality. Please, please vote Yes on May 25 th to give me and women like me a chance to live.
