The Sligo Champion

A vote for no

-

Madam Editor,

From reading letters to your paper there is an impression that The Catholic Church is being blamed for its opposition to the proposed legislation on abortion. The ten commandments were given by God the Father to all humankind.

One of those commandments is ‘Thou Shalt not Kill’ Jesus said that he did not come to abolish the law but to uphold it.

The Catholic Church which was founded by Jesus, would be failing in its duty, if it had not the moral courage to uphold the truth in its teaching.

In the recent past, a prominent atheist commented that, while he did not live by the Ten Commandments they are the best guide to life and living ever thought of.

This country boasts of being a democratic republic. If so, it should prove it by letting the public know the details of the proposed abortion legislation. Imagine that these babies will never see a morning sunrise, or hear a bird sing.

For these, and many other reasons the politicians who will be voting no should be commended. Joseph O Cléirigh Calry Sligo
