Foley wins River Moy half marathon

HEATHER Foley won the women’s section of the River Moy half marathon in Ballina on Saturday in warm and breezy conditions.

The thirty six year old North Sligo runner set a new women’s club record when recording a very good time of 1hour 25minutes 49seconds,the time chopped 1min 33secs off the old record held by Paticia McCosker.

Foley who has not run a half marathon in almost 4 years won the women’s fit for life 5k on Tuesday last in Doorly Park,she has won many 5 and 10k races in the past year,the move to the half marathon distance was a challenge she overcame with that fine performanc­e in Ballina.

Aiden McMoreland and Cathy McCarthy were 2 other club members who put in fine performanc­es in the race.

McMoreland clocked a good time of 1hour 17minutes 31seconds to finish 3rd in the senior men’s section with McCarthy taking 3rd prize in the over 45 section with a time of 1hour 47minutes 52seconds.

The Cliffoney 8K will be held on Friday 1st June at 7:30pm.

This race which is only a few years old has become very popular with runners because it is one of the flattest courses in the county and the hospitalit­y in the Hall after the race is great.

The Maugherow1­0k will be held on Saturday 9th June at 7:30pm.

This scenic and beautiful course has attracted runners from far and near and the legendary Maugherow hospitalit­y after the race is like a magnet to many.

There are plenty of races to look forward to.
