PARISH HISTORY GROUP

The next meeting takes place at the Yeats Country Inn Curry on Tuesday, May 29, at 8 p.m. Historian, Ms Patricia Conway will highlight the work of the Congested Districts Board in their efforts to alleviate the widespread and chronic poverty of the era, 1891-1923.

The CDB purchased large tracts of land from Landlords and allocated it to local farmers (former tenant farmers). They promoted local enterprise via subsidies and technical instructio­n for: Provision of new and improved houses and farm buildings, creation of and the promotion of indigenous industry, establishm­ent of farm animal and poultry breeding programs and building of new and enhanced local infrastruc­ture. All are welcome to attend the meeting.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Congratula­tions to the pupils of St Patrick’s NS who received their First Holy Communion last weekend in St Patrick’s Church Moylough; Sarah Barrett, Daithi Brennan, Dylan Brennan, Cara Cunnie, Rachel Davey, Enya Gilmartin, Jake Hyland, Ella Rose McLoughlin, Nathan McLoughlin, Clodagh Martin, Amie Maye. They all enjoyed a party after Mass in the arts and Heritage Centre organised by the parents committee.
