Children’s poet of the year
The Hawk’s Well Theatre fosters the importance of poetr y with a Children’s poetr y competition ever y year. W.B. Yeats, the famous Irish poet and writer spent his childhood in Sligo and we know there are more fantastic poets in our schools right now! Ever y year a poem by W.B. Yeats is chosen for inspiration. This year the chosen poem is Where My Books Go.
The competition has ver y few rules and they are really simple:
-You must write a poem called Where My Books Go. -The poem can be in any st yle or form, and must be fi ve lines long -You may submit a maximum of three poems to the competition -The poem you submit must be written by you -The competition is open to Primar y School students only An application form can be downloaded from the Hawk’s Well Theatre website. The deadline for submissions is Friday the 1st of June and the winning poets will be presented with their prize on Yeats Day, Wednesday 13th June at the Hawk’s Well Theatre.
The winning poet will win a €100 voucher from the Hawk’s Well Theatre for their school to put towards their next booking and a trip for the whole class to Eagles Flying, Ballymote, the l argest centre for birds of prey and owls in Ireland. During the highly entertaining and interactive bird show, the class will experience eagles, hawks, falcons, vultures and owls - an unforgettable experience for all. Four highly commended poets will each win a €30 voucher to the Hawk’s Well Theatre.
