Actress urges Yes vote on Friday

-

SLIGO native Pauline McLynn (above) has got involved in a campaign to encourage people to ‘Hear Me Out’, an initiative encouraging to have a private conversation with an undecided voter.

Speaking about the referendum Ms McLynn said: “I will be voting yes and honestly cannot think of any other way that I would vote. To me, it seems to be the only choice that we have is to repeal the 8th amendment because it’s harmful to women. Ireland is a dangerous place for women to live in quite frankly, while the 8th amendment stands. So we have got to get rid of it”.

Continuing Ms McLynn said: ‘ There’s a lot of misinformation and scare tactics going on out there. And I think that people get really frightened when they hear the very word Abortion. But, there is nothing to be frightened of. It’s just a basic health issue for women. We must never have a country in which a Savita Halappanavar can die in such horrible circumstances again. Ms McLynn added: I applaud all the people who have shared their personal stories throughout this campaign. It’s been incredibly brave and it’s amazing how many people we all know who have either had to make the journey or had to make some really hard and heart breaking decisions.”
