Rugby Club Awards night
WINNING the Connacht Senior Cup for the first time in 103 years and then following this with topping Division 2c, it’s been a year to remember for all at Sligo Rugby Club.
It was rounded off at the Ulster Bank League Awards when club captain Shane Boyle was named as 2C Player of the Year at the special ceremony in the Aviva on Thursday.
His teammate Manu Parkin was also nominated for the 2C Player of the Year and both players were also in the running for the Provincial Player of the Year.
Sligo RFC have been well represented at the Ulster Bank League awards with Kuba Wojtkowicz winning both 2C Player of the Year and Provincial Player of the Year last year.
The ceremony celebrates the local heroes who line out for their clubs across the country.
Sligo RFC can look back on the 2017/18 season with immense pride in what was a fantastic year for the club, guided by Head Coach Ross Mannion. There was a huge crowd at the Sligo RFC Club Awards in the Glasshouse Hotel. John Keegan won the Club Person of the Year, Ross Mannion, Des Cosgrove, Gavin Foley and Tommy Craddock were honoured for the Senior Coaching Team of the Season. Sean Wynne was named Youth Player of the Season, Charlie Cooper won Development Squad Player of the Season, Ryan Feehily was named Senior Player of the Year, Manu Parkin won Senior Players’ Player of the Year, Shane O’Hehir won Supporters Player of the Season, while James Wilson was honoured with the Outstanding Service as a Player.
John Kane, Sligo RFC President said it was a fantastic year for everyone at the club and Jean McConnell, PRO, said it was a brilliant season for all of the squads, including the Development Squad which finished runners up in the Junior Cup.
Sligo Tag is back this Friday with plenty of entertainment, bbqs and fun coinciding with the rugby.
