ST. MARY’S

THE younger squads were out in force last week and showed the skills they are learning at Saturday morning Coaching. Drumcliffe Rosses Point were the opposition for boys and girls. The U8 Girls were having their first match. They don’t have long to wait for their next match as this Wednesday they take on St Johns in Cleveragh at 7pm. Our U7/8 boys were in Oxfield on Wednesday evening to play Drumcliffe Rosses Point. Our U9/10 boys were also in Oxfield and thanks to our hosts for organising the evening. All the lads contributed to a strong team performance.

OUR U12 boys had contrasting fortunes against Coolera/Strandhill on Tuesday night last. The division 1 team played some excellent football and were convincing winners on a scoreline of 24 to 6 while our division 3 boys played well for periods but in the end fell to a 17-5 defeat to stronger opponents. On Friday last the U12’s had a further outing when they travelled to Manorhamilton where we enjoyed two excellent challenge games. With a break in the league for a couple of weeks our attention now changes to the upcoming Clifford cup on Saturday June 2nd. We are looking forward to both our teams being very competitive in the tournament which hosts Corofin(Galway), Castlebar(Mayo),St Mary’s(Leitrim),Aodh Rua, Four Masters,St.Eunan’s(all Donegal) and St. Molaise Gaels. Everyone’s support would be greatly appreciated on what is always a fantastic day’s football. THE Minor boys overcame Calry/ St Joseph’s in impressive style in their league semi-final on Friday. We won 5-17 to 1-10. We will play Geevagh/ St Michaels in league final this week. Our U10 girls participated in a blitz organised by Connacht LGFA at the Connacht Centre of Excellence, playing Annaghdown, Swinford and CT Gaels. They will soon commence matches organised by Sligo LGFA. The U12 girls made the long journey to Castleconnor to play Eoghan Rua in the A league Semi final. Disappointment in losing, but we can be immensely proud of our girls who were playing a high level game against top opposition. What an adventure for the U16 Girls and their management team and supporters. Last week, up against the odds, our girls pulled a fantastic victory over Shamrock Gaels to keep very slim hopes of a league play-off place alive. It was then out of our hands and dependent on Tourlestrane pulling off an unlikely victory in their final match on Tuesday against form side Drumcliffe Rosses Point. As this match entered extra time Tourlestrane trailed but unbelievably with a final score the win was secured by a single point, and a play-off place beckoned for St Marys. This took place last Friday when we travelled to Tourlestrane. At full time the scoreline read 8-12 for St Marys to 6-11 for Tourlestrane. St Marys move on to meet Drumcliffe Rosses Point on Tuesday with the winner taking on Calry in the League final next weekend.

OUR seniors are struggling at the moment with their consistency with only one league win so far.
