Sligo/Leitrim TDs urged to support Bill
LEITRIM Together For Yes has called on the constituency’s TDs to ensure the Government’s promised legislation on abortion is enacted without undue delay.
“Our group would like to express its thanks to the people of Leitrim for coming out and voting in such large numbers in the Referendum last Friday. We were heartened to see such a positive response to the call for compassion, kindness and trust for all the women of Ireland. We are aware that, this week, and every week until legislation is enacted, women will continue to make lonely journeys and travel for the care they cannot receive at home. Some of these will be Leitrim women and our thoughts go with them. We call on our local TDs regardless of their personal views on abortion, to work with their colleagues to enact legislation without undue delay, in accordance with the expressed wishes of their constituents and the vast majority of the voters of this country. The past few days have shown us what can be achieved by a true grassroots movement. Women have been heard, as never before, throughout this land. Most of all we would like, once again, to express our heartfelt gratitude to the voters of Lovely Leitrim for placing their trust in their daughters, sisters, wives and neighbours. We, the women and men of Leitrim Together for Yes, are truly grateful for your support. Together we have made this county, and this country, a kinder, gentler place,” said spokesperson Bernie Linnane.
