Ursuline students attend AbbVie’s ‘Experience Day’
STUDENTS from Ursuline College, Sligo are pictured at a recent educational event called the AbbVie Experience Day. AbbVie, the biopharmaceutical company with sites in Sligo, Cork and Dublin, partners with Young Social Innovators ( YSI) to run a series of innovation exchange events, which gave company employees the chance to interact with students from their local community at their offices and manufacturing sites across the country.
The students from Ursuline College presented their Universal Design project, which they entered into an AbbVie-sponsored STEM and Social Innovation competition in 2017.
Schools from across Sligo, Cork and Dublin visit AbbVie workplaces and interact with employees from a wide range of professional backgrounds. This exercise provided participating students with a great insight into the work undertaken at AbbVie and also encourages them to consider STEM disciplines as leaving certificate, university and career options. Since 2014, almost 200 AbbVie volunteers have assisted in the delivery of 70 social innovation workshops & AbbVie Experience Days to more than 1,500 students at 40 schools in Sligo, Dublin and Cork.
