-

A 31-year-old man has been jailed for eight months after he admitted a series of public order and other offences.

On being jailed, Gary Duncan (pictured) of 5 Seaview Park, Sea Road, Sligo told Judge Kevin Kilrane: “Thanks, it’s been emotional.”

The Judge had originally imposed a sentence of 16 months but suspended eight of that on condition that he engages in a treatment programme in prison and also has follow up care on his release with a programme called Social Groundforce for a period of two years.

Duncan also admitted offences of criminal damage, trespass, larceny, possession of a knife . This was in addition to charges of intoxication, disorderly conduct and failing to comply with the directions of a Garda. Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor (defending) asked for client to be given some light at the end of the tunnel. He had been in custody for the previous two weeks awaiting sentence.
