Good luck also to the Sligo U20 footballers who play Roscommon on Saturday evening at Dr Hyde Park. Congrats to the Rathcormac NS girls footballers on reaching the Cumann na mBunscol final last week. The date for the final had still to be finalised at the time of writing. There were some excellent performances by Rosses Point and Drumcliffe competitors at the National Community Games finals in Limerick last weekend, with athletes taking home several medals across of a range of team and individual events, ranging to athletics, swimming, tag rugby, model making - not to mention Gold in the Quiz competition! Well done to all involved. Our junior men’s football team were narrowly beaten by St Molaise Gaels in Division 4 last Sunday on a final scoreline of 1-11 to 2-7. The boys U12 football teams’ league matches against Eastern Harps, scheduled for this Tuesday evening, have been postponed on account of Confirmation for Rathcormac NS pupils this week. There were mixed fortunes for our U14 football teams last week. The girls enjoyed a 6-8 to 3-7 success over St Molaise Gaels in Grange on Monday evening, while the boys were beaten by Coolera/ Strandhill on Thursday by 10-5 to 4-9. Benbulben Gaels U14 hurlers continue their Féile preparations this Thursday with an away match against Naomh Eoin in the league at 7pm. Well done to our U12 hurlers who recorded a good win in the league last Monday. Oxfield Centre is holding its popular Family Funday Monday extravaganza this bank holiday Monday, June 4th, from 2-5pm. The club wishes to extend its sympathy to Karen Joyce and family following the death of Karen’s father, Michael, in County Armagh last week.

COOLERA/STRANDHILL

THERE was no winner of the lotto draw last week. The numbers were 18, 21, 25, 27. This week’s jackpot is €7000. Coolera/Strandhill 10.5 Drumcliffe/Rosses Point 5.9 The Coolera/Strandhill u14 boys kept up their winning ways with a comprehensive victory over Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in Oxfield Park. The visitors were much the sharper in the early exchanges with Mark McDaniel getting an early goal followed quickly by a powerful effort from Ciaran Langan. Oisín O’ Neill then netted after a great team effort stemming from the impressive half back line. Another goal and a point from M.McDaniel gave us the advantage heading into the break. The second half saw plenty more opportunities arise for the visitors while Jaime Walsh was manfully keeping the home side at bay in the unfamiliar No 1 jersey. Rory Kinane got on the score sheet as did Jarlath Herbert and Oisín O Neill, followed soon after by a point from the teak tough Ross Doherty. Sergey Donoghue put in another fine effort as did newcomer Daragh McCormack. Ciaran Langan finished the game on an impressive tally of 4 goals only bettered by Mark McDaniel on 4.3 Contenders for man of the match were Ben Cawley and Donnacha Beirne who both put in a great shift. Several players had earlier in the day helped Ransboro N.S into a Cummann na mBunscoil final which made their efforts all the more commendable. It was also good to see injured duo Jamie Kilfeather and Cathal Morahan turn out to support their colleagues. Our minor’s suffered defeat in the League semi final last week, going down 2-09 to 3-11 to Tubbercurry/ Cloonacool, who went on to win the final. Hard luck boys. Our U12 hurling team made the long trip to Castleconnor last Tuesday for round 4 of the hurling league. The journey proved very worthwhile as the boys emerged victorious 0-09 to 0-06. They remain unbeaten with full points to date. Well done boys. Hard luck to the seniors who travelled to Grange for the latest round of the Kiernan Cup. It was a tough evening for the lads, as the home side won 2-17 to 1-11. It was a busy week for the local schools last week. Strandhill boys and girls were involved in play-offs and were unlucky to go out of the competition at that stage. Ransboro girls suffered defeat to Rathcormac in a close semi-final, narrowly losing out on a place in the final. The boys from Ransboro, having won the competition last year, overcame a strong Scoil Ursula side in the semi-final, thanks to an excellent second half performance. They played Scoil Naomh Molaise from Grange in the final in Markievicz Pk on Saturday. After a slow start the boys settled into the match. They trailed by a single point at half time but turned the deficit around to lead by a point midway through the second half. An injury to goalkeeper Ben Lawlor-Kerr disrupted the rhythm and the boys couldn’t capitalise on the lead, eventually losing 14-11.

ST MOLAISE GAELS

CONGRATULATIONS to the Boys of Scoil Naomh Molaise Grange on winning a thrilling Cumann na mBunscoil final against Ransboro NS in Markievicz Park on Saturday last. A brilliant game between two very evenly matched sides saw Grange lead 9 scores to 7 at the interval . Half way through the second period Ransboro had brought the scores level but in the final few minutes it was Grange who finished best running out winners by 14 scores to 11. The previous evening though it was disappointment in Kent Park for our Minor Boys who went down to a 0-21 to 1-14 defeat after extra time to Curry in the Minor League final. It looked as if Gaels were poised for victory as a point from James Heraghty saw them leading by a point as the game went into injury time but Curry broke upfield for a late free that levelled the game. The sides still could not be separated after the first period of extra time but three quick points in succession in the second period saw the South Sligo side take the honours. Well done to our Lads on an excellent league campaign. A very youthful squad have produced some excellent displays and they certainly head into the Championship in good form. Congratulations to Curry. Also on Friday night our senior men made it 3 wins from 3 in the Kiernan Cup defeating Coolera/Starndhill 2-17 to 1-11 in Grange with Keelan Waters and Evan Farrell both finding the net. On Sunday last our Development squad mad the short trip to Oxfield and emerged narrow winners in a Division IV League clash defeating Drumcliffe/Rosses Point 1-11 to 2-107. We saw plenty of our neighbours during the week as our U8 Girls and U8 and U10 Boys all had fixtures in Oxfield against the home side. Some excellent football displayed in all these fixtures by our young Girls and Boys. This week’s action sees our U14 Girls away to Coolera/Strandhill on Tuesday evening at 7.00pm. On Thursday evening our U10 Girls are away to St Farnan’s at 7.00pm while also on Thursday evening its another first for the Club as our U10 Hurlers are in Tubbercurry to play against the home side as well as St Mary’s with fixtures commencing at 7.00pm.
