COMMUNITY GAMES

The Community Games county finals of the under-10 Indoor Soccer event held at the Summerhill College Sligo was only one of the many team events held throughout Sligo a short time ago as part of the first round events for 2018. An extremely popular event with massive support throughout the county resulted in 22 areas submitting a team. For the first time ever Castleconnor was one of those areas with a team entered in the boy’s competition.

Drawn against Coolera in the first round, the match turned out to be a thrilling encounter between the two sides, but the boys played their hearts out to overcome a very strong team and sail into the next round of the competition.

Despite a solid performance by Castleconnor in the second round they were unable to ward off their opponents Aughanagh, who came out worthy winners in the end. Aughanagh went on to capture the county title and were later placed in the runners-up position in the Connacht Finals in Leitrim.

Well done to the players for two very exciting matches which produced some very fine soccer skills. The parents wish to extend their thanks to Lorraine O’Neill for coordinating this event at local level. Castleconnor team: Ruairi Mahony, Diarmuid Feeney, Oran McGranaghan, Ethan O’Neill, Geordan McCormack, Adam O’Connor.
