MR CROAL’S BEES

Curraghfore man and local hill walking enthusiasts, Francis Croal recently had the students of St Clare’s Primary School Manorhamilton and Enniskillen Integrated Primary School enthralled with his vivid bee keeping stories.

In a joint admirable cross-border project under the Peace four CASE programme, the two schools first, second, and Primary three classes got together in St Clare’s Primary School for a variety of informative bio-diversity workshops.

Mr Croal’s input on the bees’ activity fascinated all the students. It included a unique explanation on how, on a sunny day they were all in a great mood and eager to head off collecting pollen for up to three miles, and the bees are always able to find their way home to the hive.

But on a dull day the bees’ story is different; a bit contrary. They are apt to sting if you annoyed them too much – all 60,000 of them. It certainly is a lot of bees to keep happy. But when it comes honey making the bees are undoubtedly the experts.
